Match Report – U14 Boys:
Dromintee 2-16 v Silverbridge 5-11
At home on Tuesday night, Dromintee U14 boys faced near neighbours Silverbridge in their penultimate game of the season. In a keenly contested match, our lads battled hard from start to finish. Despite trailing by nine points at half-time, the team showed remarkable resilience to close the gap to just two points with ten minutes to play. While Silverbridge ultimately emerged deserved four-point winners, the character and determination shown by our boys was a credit to them and the club.
Among the many strong performances on the night, one stood out for both the quality on the pitch and the significance off it. Aurimas Jankus, who was our captain on the night, played his final game for Dromintee before returning home to Lithuania with his family. He delivered a superb display, scoring 1-2 and reminding everyone of the raw, explosive talent he has brought to our team for the past six years.
Aurimas has been with the club since he first pulled on a Dromintee jersey as a young boy, and he’s shared the classroom with his teammates since Primary 1. Over that time, he’s thrilled us with moments of sheer class on the field – the kind of magic that can lift a team when the going gets tough. But beyond his skills, Aurimas is an outstanding young man – a pleasure to coach, a loyal teammate, and a valued friend to so many.
The emotion in the dressing room after the game, and the smiles and laughter at the farewell party in the clubhouse, spoke volumes about the place Aurimas holds in the hearts of everyone here.
Instead of the usual Thursday evening training, the boys hit Gyles Quay for a final special send-off to Aurimas. There was swimming, pier jumping, and plenty of craic and laughter. Even the coaches took a dip - well most of them anyway! It was the perfect way to say goodbye to a great friend and teammate.
On behalf of the coaching team, the players, and the wider Dromintee community, we wish Aurimas and his family the very best on their new adventure. He will be missed deeply, but his time with us will always be remembered with great pride and fondness.
Go raibh maith agat, Aurimas – once a Dromintee player, always a Dromintee player.
