Five students from Armagh have been recognised on the McKeever Sports Queen’s University Future Stars selectionS within Gaelic Games for 2024.

In Ladies Football, Aoibhin Donohoe (St Ronan’s and Clann Eireann) has been named at corner forward on the Future Stars team. The Lurgan youngster featured prominently in the Autumn when her club captured Armagh and Ulster Senior titles.

It was a double celebration at the awards night in Belfast for the Armagh Harps club. Elsie Druse (St Catherine’s) has been named in defence on the football team while St Patrick’s Keady student Eimear McGeary secured the county’s sole Camogie award, named at wing forward. Eimear plays her Camogie with Madden and football with the Harps.

Armagh had two representatives on the boys’ McKeever Sports Queen’s University Future Stars for 2024 and both hail from the Dromintee club in the South of the county. Gavin O’Rourke (St Paul’s Bessbrook) and Diarmaid O’Rourke (Abbey CBS) have been selected in the full back and half back line respectively.

Both award recipients on the boys selection captained their schools in this year’s Danske Bank Ulster Schools Rannafast Cup campaign and featured prominently as Dromintee captured the Paul McGirr Ulster u16 title before Christmas.

Ruairí Taylor, Performance Sport Development Officer with Queen’s, congratulated all the players who had made it through to the Future Stars final team.
“Queen's University are delighted to continue to support and celebrate the work carried out within Ulster Schools for the promotion of all codes of Gaelic Games.
The level of skill and commitment shown by all those who took part in the trials is a tribute to the work being done right across the province and the final 15 have really earned their jersey."
There were outstanding candidates all over the field, especially in the final trials, and there was plenty of evidence on show that Gaelic Games at School level within Ulster is in a very strong place in 2024.”
